Just look at the bright side, you’ll be fine
A sentence that might be something easier said than done. If you’re like me, it’s not easy to just forget about something that you have taken to heart. You can’t change that part of you, and that’s how you are. Some people go through dark phases in their life, and it’s surely hard for them to get back up again. This article is written in hopes to lift up the spirits of people going through a rough patch, whether it’s a breakup, a mistake you think you can’t overcome, letting someone down or being let down, the loss of a loved one, failure at work, study or just anything that keeps you from smiling.
Here are hopefully some helpful guide that will help you get through this rough patch:
Don’t suffer in silence. If you are going through something and you don’t know if you can ever get back from that, you should know that you are not alone in this. You can bounce back to where you were before being in this mess, only if you make the effort to do so.
People that passes us by might be going through the same thing, and wishes there’s something they could do to get out of it. Speak up about it to a friend or a family member, someone you could trust and comfortable talking it to. They might be undergoing the same thing and you might have something in relatable. By sharing experiences together only can it help you lift a bit of that burden off your chest.
This can also be done by sharing your thoughts on social media, you might be thinking, I do not want to be one of those who throw everything on a platform, but the thing is, you never know someone might calm you down or ease your mind than you can find someone near you. Have a diary, either its something digital like a blog or stick with the old school diary book, pour it all out there. Set yourself as anonymous if you like. Anything that is poured out will be a reliever.
Change your perspective and attitude. When we’re going through something difficult, we feel as though nothing can help. I totally understand this. But thinking this negatively causes you to overthink. You start to think of all the “what ifs” in life, you might go overboard and disappoint yourself, even when it hasn’t even happened yet. It crushes your soul and you’ll end up reaching a different level of anxiety that makes you believe that no matter what you do, you will undoubtedly fail.
All this need to end. You need to see perspective into a whole new level. We all need to believe that everything has a reason and throw out that negativity because no body likes to be with the Negative Nancy. It’s a matter of choice on how you want to perceive the things you see in life. How we feel about things is actually based on our perception and how we act on it. If we change our attitude towards it, it would definitely make a difference.
Try a hobby. Read a book and get lost in your imagination, or learn something crafty which you can learn from the Internet, or get that adrenaline rush and start running or join a class or two at the gym or jog in the nature. Whether it is a spin class, a yoga class or a trampoline class, it will get your mind off things that bother you. It gets your mind flowing. Of course, to begin might not sound like it’s easy or even possible. It’s great to get your mind off of whatever is bothering you.
Associate yourself with people who accept you for who you are. Being around people that call themselves your friends but only bring up your flaws or past mistakes keep you demotivated. You will need people who will encourage you and remind you how strong you actually are especially at these tough situations. As cliché as it sound, but it is at times like this, you do need people to simply say “you are stronger than you think” whenever you’re down and low. Meet out new people, you never know who you might be friends with. It could be someone that changed your life into the better.
Treat people nicely. You have no idea how a smile can bright up someone’s day. I had one of those bad days, feeling grumpy walking to the library and stumbled upon a woman who smiled at me, of course, I had to smile back. That feeling of being smiled at makes a person feel better. It is something science can’t explain but it is there. Greet people with a simple ‘hello’ or ‘how are you’ and as a matter of fact, a small gesture can make a person feel appreciated and cared. People undergo their own life battle, the very least we can do is to actually be nice and make people feel that they are alone in this sometimes cruel world.
Make supplication and remember Allah. When all things failed, take wudhu and turn your head to Him especially in times when it’s hard and you think is impossible to move on above all. Truly, only He is the great reliever. Note that everything is temporary, just as life as it is, everything will be turned back to him.
This pain shall pass as after hardship there is always a silver lining. A rough patch is certainly no walk in the park, but we may be surprised to realize that those are the times in our lives we actually achieved growth in our lives. Perhaps one of the best things we can do during the tough times in life is remember to always look for the lesson. Although, it can be incredibly hard to even believe that there is even any at the time we’re going through a particularly rough struggle, look back over some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your life.
