In our quick-paced moving world, it is so important to take a timeout for even just a bit of relaxation and “me” time. When was the last time you had your “me time”? That’s right, kicking back on a Sunday watching your favourite series on Netflix or Hulu, or going to the beauty salon for a little pick-me-up? When was the last time you took some time off to pamper yourself, recharge and rejuvenate?

The world we live in today is all about the hustle and bustle: working ourselves in college, and getting a full-time job, have kids to take care of. We make time for everyone else, but do we make time for ourselves? How often do you take an entire day just for you? If your answer to the question is a long pause because you’re trying to remember, then this post is for you.

Self-care is all the rage these days, and I think it’s necessary! There is no shame in wanting to take better care of yourself. While a lot of the practices focus on our inner state and mentality, there shouldn’t be anything wrong with some indulgence of pampering our outer-self, it’s for our overall well-being after all.

Life is too short to not treat yourself. All the little accomplishments with a great treat every now and then, whether it is a long-term goal that you have achieved, or simply you had the most productive day ever and managed to cross off everything on your to-do list, reward yourself with a nice expensive cup of coffee which you don’t normally have, or book an appointment with your manicurist.

There is just something about going to the hair salon that gives a great feeling afterwards. Your hairdresser gives your hair a nice wash and cut, blow dries and gives it volume, and you feel so confident, beautiful, and in addition to the compliments, your dear hairdresser makes, stepping out of the salon is always satisfying!

If your extra money in your savings account, splurge a little: bring a friend, your mother, or whoever you feel like spending the day with. Treating yourself and your loved ones every once in a while might seem like an indulgence, but it definitely a worthwhile investment in yourself. You get to improve both your mental and physical health.

However, what’s a girl to do when she’s actually tight on cash but needs to have a little pampering sesh? Don’t worry, there is still hope. There are a variety of inexpensive ways to pamper yourself which you can do from the comfort of your very own home.

Here’s the thing, when we start to love ourselves more each day, we feel better on the inside which is then reflected on the outside. There is this saying that I came across a couple of weeks ago:

You glow differently when you are actually happy.

So why should you pamper yourself?

Sometimes, not only do you deserve a break, you need one. You take care of everyone else’s needs but hardly give a thought to yourself. While your unselfishness is admirable, you need to remember to put yourself first. When we go on long periods without taking any time off for ourselves, we’ll end up getting burned out. Ditch the guilt and take a break.

How Can You Pamper Yourself?

Have a spa day. Do it yourself at home or head to your favourite spa for the day. Letting someone pamper you is great, but if you are on a tight budget, you could always check online for tutorials on how to give yourself a facial or other spa activities.

Take a day off from your everyday tasks. Take a whole day off to yourself when you don’t have to worry about your job, cleaning, babysitting. Shut down your phone. Get in your comfy clothes, read a good book you’ve been dying to read or watch your favourite  series.

Splurge on something you normally wouldn’t. If you always love new clothes and shoes but are always frugal about it, treat yourself, go to that mall which sells the bag you’ve been eyeing on, or go on your favourite website to your wishlist and get a pair of those shoes. Treat yourself and don’t worry about the price tag just for that one day.

Have a cheat day. If you’ve been strict on what you eat and controlling your portions, avoiding your favourite fast food restaurant. Did you know that you’re more likely to stick to your diet longer if you treat yourself once in a while? Just don’t have your cheat days every week! So order that slice of cake you saw and have been trying to get off your mind.
